Updates for summerSLAM!
Ok so I'm updating all the facts for the summerSLAM! just to set everyone straight...
summerSLAM! is this Saturday, August the 2nd at 6pm at the park next to Signature School. Sig school is located at the start of main street across from all the federal buildings...there will be a cook out, hot dogs, and some snacks, but since this comes out of my pocket, please bring your own drinks and snack to share if you could..cmon people, love your neighbor...you can also bring a blanket to sit on, maybe a frisbee, its just a fun picnic...the slam will be open topic...also a special portion of the slam, the tribute slam, will take place...people will perform selections of pieces from their favorite slam poet in honor of the slam poetry nationals in Chicago August 6-9th. Also, this slam is not censored like Wadi, but do use good judgment and exercise good taste...also have a copy of your poem for me at the slam to look at and qualify it to compete...Books with slam poetry will be on hand for audience members to look at and find a poem to slam if they would like...So head out and have some fun. also VERY IMPORTANT!!! If it is raining saturday evening, the slam will be held on August 4th, same place and same time...but lets cross our fingers for no rain...if it is canceled, there will be a sign up at the park telling so...Hope to see you all there! -Lisa

Hola from Barcelona!
This is Lisa and right now I am on this really cool machine that has internet standing in the hotel lobby in Barcelona Spain! It is amazing here. I am sunburned and tired and coming home soon but it has been an adventure. Just a reminder that the next SLAM! summerSLAM! is August 2nd and posters will be up and details will follow as soon as I get back in E'ville. Goodbye Evansville...
I'll be gone in Spain the next 11 days, so no SLAM! post from me... Don't forget to tell EVERYONE about the summerSLAM! August 2nd (rain date the 4th) down at the park by Sig School...There will be a cookout with food...Bring your own drinks and extra snacks if you really wanna chow down, or bring some food to share, we arent too rich so we can't feed the world=) The charge is free for now, but bring a buck or two incase you want mucho food. Also keep in mind that this slam, unlike Wadi slam will not be censored, so children are not really welcomed, I suggest you get a babysitter or bring ear muffs, and we will also be doing poetry from poets that will be competing at the 2003 national poetry slam in Chicago that next weekend August 6-9 and that poetry, due to the fact it is not ours, will be performed in its original context. Just a warning...But it will be a lot of fun and a great end to the summer as we start to get ready to go back to school...Also keep in mind that at the next Wadi slam, sometime in late August or early September, we now have a cash prize$$$ Shadi, Wadi's owner said that he will write the next slam winner a $20 check to the first place winner...thats like two tanks of gas, four movie tickets, four pints of Ben and Jerrys Ice cream, a pet hamster and cage, and like 200 packs of ramen noodles! WOW! so start writing poetry and see you all when I get back! Peace! -Lisa

The next slam will be held at 6 o'clock on August 2nd. It's early enough to have sunlight, but hopefully late enough to not be too hot. There will be a cookout! Spread the word!

SummerSLAM!
SummerSLAM! will be held August 2nd (rain date on the 4th) in the park next to Signature School downtown. (right at the front of the downtown gateway) Times are not known yet, but it will be outside so bring a blanket to sit on, some drinks, bug spray, poetry, and a smile. There will be food, we are cooking out, and all poetry is welcomed, censored or not, this slam will not be censored like Wadi SLAM! and we will also be reading poetry from poets that will be at the National Poetry Slam that next week in Chicago... Good Times!
SLAM! was held this past weekend at Wadi cafe... Attendance was a bit low due to summer vacations and summer musical but nevertheless it was still fun. Poets were as follow in order Sibo Lin, Sara Hertweck, Phuc Nyguyen, and Emily "Pete" Ballard. In Points, Phuc won the slam, but everyone is a winner at Wadi SLAM! so everyone got a prize; FIREWORKS! Make sure that your writing some poetry for the next slam at Wadi. Shadi, the wonderful owner, says he will write a 20 check to whoever wins first place..the stakes are getting higher now kids! We are playin for money! After the slam, some of us went and set the fireworks off, the end to a good night. Judges at the slam where Sam Priest, Pat Blanford, and Adam Grimm, with me being the scorekeeper and no open mic=( Stay tuned for the summer slam coming up at the end of this month. Yo I can blog here now...
Hello everyone! This is slammistress Lisa. I am that HUGE face that greets you in the whats new section...(thank you Phuc for making me look like Headzilla..) anyways, I am the slammistress at Wadi, and will be updating this blog along with the slam headlines blog...everyone come out this Saturday to Wadi at 7:30 pm for some slam fun!
